Hi Folks!
I believe this is my first post although I have been reading this board for a couple of years now to learn about my car and how to fix stuff etc. I must say what a great board this is! A BIG thank you to all the people who post, you have helped me immensly!
I am having a problem with my 1997 OBW. I seem to get a rumble from the front end when backing up a moderate incline. It happens when I after I engage the clutch and start moving backwards. I have had both front axels changed about 1000 miles ago. My mechanic usually performs very good work -- he did my HG problem at 113K and that worked out great so far with 146K. The original axels were replaced with NAPA remans. The car works fine going forward, and any speed, and doesnt seem to have the problem on level ground. The replaced axels dont seem to have the problems experienced by others on this forum have reported (of course, unless this rumble can be considered related to the replaced axels).
I didn't really notice the problem (it is my daughters car) since there were a whole bunch of other noises from the drivetrain and suspension that needed to be fixed. I have since replaced all 4 struts, springs, SB links, SB bushings (thanks to this and other forums!) -- this really improved things, great handling, much tighter drivetrain (though some work is still required since
I was thinking that maybe the motor mounts, trans mount, or both might be causing the rumbling since they are original. I am going to check their conditions today. This car has since passed on to my son, who just got his license in July, and I enjoyed working on it most weekends this summer -- my son loves this car, it is a great car.
I have checked this and other forums but have not seen anybody that has had this exact same problem (maybe I am searching on the items/keywords).
I appreciate any advice or pointers, thanks for your time.
Best regards,
Cole
